Eurosoc is running a poll about Germany’s campagain to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. The Question is:
Which country should join Britain, France, the USA, China and Russia as a permanent member?
Germany Japan India Egypt Israel
It does not look like good news for Germany as only 4% of respondents have elected to back their bid, Egypt is totally out of the running at only 1% whilst Japan polls a respectable 27% Israel comes in a surprising second with 33% of the votes, but topping the poll at two points ahead of Israel is India at 35%
Of course when the EU is completely in control of all foreign policy, each of the EU members who do have a seat on the Council will be expected to comply with the EU position in any case, so of course with France Britain and Germany all on the Council the EU will have three votes America, Russia, and China will only have one. That looks a little unfair to me, perhaps we need to have just one seat filled by the EU, Britain and France could then give up their seats to make way for India. Of course if this were to happen then if Britain were to leave the Union then we would have lost our seat on the Council for good, but of course none of this is likely is it, because the EU is not a state and is not intending to become a state; now repeat after me children THE EU IS NOT A STATE AND IS NOT INTENDING TO BECOME A STATE. Note I always chuckle when they then add “like Americaâ€!

I think it’’s fucking gorgeous.
