Africans Dying for Europe?

A few short excerpts from this post at EU Referendum

According to a recent study by Harvard University, malaria slows economic growth by 1.3 percent a year. Over the last 30 years, Africa as a whole has lost at least $100b dollars due to malaria.

As a result, pressure is growing to resume use of the one insecticide which remains effective – DDT.

“It remains the best alternative to fighting malaria and the earlier it is used the better,”

If Uganda does use the product, though, it risks losing valuable exports to EU member states, which will drive it further into poverty. Either way, the nation has problems with what amounts to its people dying for Europe.

We of course have the right to state what we will allow into Europe, but it does raise questions of relative morality, when the powers of the EU (in this case, it could be any powerful purchasing block) can be linked to preventing other countries using a method which we ourselves have used in the past to eradicate this disease.
