Ethos

I consider myself to be an ordinary person with an ordinary education. I have a conservative leaning – that is conservative not Conservative- but conservative in the attitude that if something is not broken why change it?

Politically I am not attached to nor do I support any political party.

I recognise that our society will evolve, as it has always evolved. Immigration will take its place with the other forces in that evolving process, I feel that the interference of government in this process has begun to work against the natural process and is hampering rather than assisting our society to come to terms with itself. 

Above all I believe in democracy and see the greatest indication of democracy is that the people are in charge of their own government, the power of the state emanates from the people, not the state and certainly not an elected government. I do not believe an elected government should have the power to change the rules by which it was elected or to erode the power that it inherited, it should at all times hand back that power intact to its rightful owners the people.

I stand firmly against the European Project because I see it as not only undemocratic but literally anti-democratic, in short the EU would not exist if the peoples of Europe had been given the opportunity to express their wishes.

If however we were to be offered a truly independent referendum on our membership I would accept the majority decision of my fellow countrymen and women.

I acknowledge that we are where we are in relationship to the EU, but do not accept that we who have been denied a voice in the previous EU treaties which have created the present situation should ignore those treaties as if we had given our consent at the time. We did not! So any referendum debate and subsequent referendum should include those treaties. I did not ask to be made a citizen of the EU and I was refused the opportunity to vote on the subject at the time. I do not believe that Mr Major had the moral right to make that decision for us. After all we voted for his party to run the country for up to five years and not to contribute towards the formation of a supra government in Brussels.

Since I have been bloging I have come to realise that the EU is not an external monster eating up our nation state from without, but is instead more likened to a virus gradually invading and destroying our political system, it is our own politicians who have contributed to the erosion of our nation state from within, thus making a charade of our whole system, all our nations infrastructure remains intact but it has been hollowed out, our legal system our judges our police our local councils are all still there and still intact but those institutions of the state no longer reflect and protect the British nation state but have become the instruments of the EU.

I see no point of electing a parliament of our representatives when they are prevented from entering into the law making process that has developed with the EU.
