New EU Justice Commissioner is a convicted fraudster.

The EU’s new Justice Commissioner, Jacques Barrot, was given an eight-month suspended jail sentence in France in 2000 for swindling government money. He was later pardoned by former French President Jacques Chirac, a close friend. Barrot was never barred from holding public office and failed to declare his past when he joined the European Commission as Transport Commissioner in 2000.

New EU Justice Commissioner is a convicted Swindler

The EU’s new Justice Commissioner, Jacques Barrot, was given an eight-month suspended jail sentence in France in 2000 for swindling government money.

He was later pardoned by former French President Jacques Chirac, a close friend. But because of the vagaries of French Law once pardoned it was as if magically the whole episode never happened and was expunged form his record.

Thus he was never barred from holding public office and legally did not lie when he failed to declare his past when he joined the European Commission 2004.

There is a difference between being pardoned and being found not guilty in one you are innocent and in the other you are still deemed to be guilty.

” To release (a person) from punishment; exempt from penalty: a convicted criminal who was pardoned by the governor.
” To let (an offense) pass without punishment.
