Ian Dale post that D Cameron has reinforced his pledge to abolish RDA’s and regional Assemblies
When asked
“you’re not in favor of regional development agencies. They do a lot of the hard work for the Government at the moment out there, helping small businesses. Have you changed your mind on your views on them?
He replied
“No. What we think is that in areas like the south east where actually local authorities would like to come together and take over the role of regional
development agencies, I think they could probably do it better. I think actually if Kent and Sussex wanted to work together, if the Thames Valley
authorities wanted to work together. I don’t believe that this regionalisation of Britain is the right way to go. We could save some money
and give it back to people in tax reductions if we got rid of the regional assemblies and so much of the regional bureaucracy there is. That’s what I’d
like to do.”
I have been following this for some time, I did not read from his words that he intends to abolish RDAs only the assemblies.
This is exactly what he said last year in Birmingham last year, abolish assemblies but keep the regional government system in place. His wittering about Kent and Sussex doing the job better clearly indicates this point, if local councils may want to get together and do the job it is clear that he can see a job for Regional government obviously he is not then going to abolish that level of government.
I would very much like to hear callmeDave say yes we will abolish the RDAs I do not think that is going to happen.
