In a post The EU is turning Fascist The Midnight Sun argues our rights are being trampled and something I did not know that and will have to check later;

As of last December, the power which I once had as a Deputy Lieutenant of London to order the troops on to the streets to assist in civil emergencies or disasters was taken away by order of a Kommissar, and Britain no longer has the legal right put her army on to her own streets without that Kommissar’s express permission.”

I assume EU Commission? Thus using the German to make it sound much more threatening. (note: The “I” apparently means Lord Monckton)

My comment strong on rhetoric light on proof.

The story was picked up from Crusader Rabbit who explains the story is based on an article by Lord Monckton on how closely the EU resembles the Soviet model in organization and powers. No more information here but linked to Wolf Howling At last some more meat The article by Lord Monckton “EU’s Lisbon Treaty Means Dictatorship” appears in Executive Intelligence Review and is paid subscriber, so back to Wolf Howling, who quotes Lord Monckton

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Communist species of fascism has spread westward by stealth to infect the European Union, whose complex treaties—now hated and feared by the overtaxed, over-regulated peoples of Europe—more closely parallel the Soviet Constitution than they do any constitution of liberty or democracy. . . .

The Centre Right Blog Comments on Lord Tebbit`s article in the Daily Mail Norman “Tebbit has an amusing piece in the Daily Mail today which tends to hit the nail on the head with regards to the emptiness of modern politicians. He is examining the new show, Headcases (a kind of revived Spitting Image), his view on his own character in Spitting
Image and how the new show, Headcases, appears to be dry, dull and meaningless. Why does Tebbit think it is dull and PC? Because modern politics is dull and PC.

Lord Tebbit did not actually go into the reasons why our modern politicians are so grey and uninteresting, and the reasons were not explored by Centre Right, who content themselves with the warm thought that people will vote for Cameron, not because of his amazing wit, charm or policies for that matter, but because he surely could not be any worse than Gordon Brown’s failed 2007-2008 post-Blairite government.

I think an important question which was missed “could he be any better for Britain” could have been addressed if the reasons why our modern politicians are dull and meaningless had been explored.

Greenie Watch

The IPCC of agriculture is also a religious festival
With just weeks to go before the final plenary meeting to agree the outcome of an international assessment of agriculture, it looks like Syngenta will not be rejoining the debate. In January, Syngenta, Monsanto and BASF pulled out of the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), a 3-year,
US$10m project initiated by the World Bank. Its aim is to do for hunger and poverty what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has done for another global challenge.

By all accounts, the draft agreement says more about the potential dangers of biotechnology than
the benefits, something that Syngenta is very unhappy about.

Exceptionally icy conditions in the Arctic — caused by global warming!

Another lamebrain. I suppose you would have to be a lamebrain to want to walk to the North pole alone.

Conservative Mind

is not very complimentary to David Miliband Why is it that while in the House of Commons yesterday, David “Batshit” Miliband demands that Robert Mugabe respects the will of the Zimbabwean electorate, yet he and his boss won’t respect the will of the British people and put the Treaty of Libson to a public vote? Surely, what’s good for Zimbabwe is also good for Britain?

GlobaL Warming Politics

Reviews the new book by Nigel Lawson

An Appeal To Reason: A Cool Look At Global Warming

Nigel’s new book is seminal reading, and it should be provided free to every school in the UK
as the urgently-needed antidote to the poison of Al Gore’s film.

Noting the tag picked up by many a Da Vinci Code of environmentalism.

Credits to Spinelli for having spent some of his best years on Ventotene and coming up with the famous manifesto there… to the Italian federalists for organising a fantastic seminar there each Septemer, to
Anders, Jon and Malena for being inspired by this and writing Europe United - and to JEF France for lip serving to the federalist anthem together with the youth theatre of Grenoble! Fantastic.

Centre for European Reform

Says there is to much complacency in the Eurozone economic outlook. A year ago the prospect of the dollar falling to 1.60 against the euro would have brought on cold sweats across Europe. Yet, here we are and
there is no sense of crisis. Indeed, business confidence remains strong across much of the eurozone, credit is expanding rapidly, and exports are holding up well. On the face of it, the eurozone really does seem
to be shaking off the recession in the US and the steep rise in the value of the euro. A closer look, however, reveals a less rosy picture.

Blood and Treasure

Inquires how come Chinese security guards were allowed to police the Olympic torch event in London Fair enough: they’ve got as much right to mobilize as the
pro-Tibetan crowd. But they seem to be doing a bit more than that. How
did they get to be part of the policing? Can you just roll up, claim to
be security guards and stand there with the cops?

Stumbling and Mumbling

Politicians Pay Do we want politicians to do more? It’s a natural tendency for people
on high salaries to want to keep busy to justify such salaries. But
activity isn’t the same as productivity. There’s much to be said for doing nothing.
