non partisan comment on the European Union and Westminster politics

UKIP TV

I am not a member of UKIP, but would have to agree that the party demonstrates an acknowledgement of the problems associated with our membership of the European Union and further, it is prepared to meet those problems head on. Rather than is the case with the other parties who by pretending problems do not exists in the first place are conniving with others to undermine the basic constitution of this country and removing our rights to elect and dismiss those who make our laws.

Of course we can still elect and dismiss our local MPs, we can jointly decide to remove one administration and replace it with another, but the problem that the Westminster village does not acknowledge is that Westminster is no longer the seat of power that runs this country, that has been passed to the EU.

The Conservative party likes to argue that they are a Eursceptic party and if elected they will start to reclaim the odd power here or the odd power there, but when you scratch the surface of their claims you invariable find that they rely on nothing more than the goodwill of the other EU member states, the goodwill of the EU parliament and of the EU commission, what they would do if that goodwill was not forthcoming they fail to say. Until they do clearly set out an agenda for the government of this country that will either force the change in the EU they say they want or set the scene for a withdrawal a conclusion one should draw if they do not obtain the changes they demand, then I for one will not believe they are serious. Labour say the EU is so good for us and our country that there is no debate about the subject, the LibDems say the EU is good for us and we should have a voice in the proceedings, but when offered the opportunity to ensure a referendum to allow our voice to be heard, reneged on their promise, did their sums and abstained.

Our once independent sovereign Parliamentary democracy has become nothing more than a charade.
